The victims of crime and those accused of crimes have a Constitutional right to have those accusations addressed by a trial by jury within with statutory required period of time. We are operating in accordance with CDC guidelines to protect those who are helping us by serving as jurors, even during difficult times.
The Court takes public health and safety seriously. Jurors will be spread out to maintain social distancing. Frequent cleaning and sanitizing protocols are in place. Access to certain common areas and amenities (coffee maker, water coolers) will be restricted. Courtrooms and waiting areas are equipped with sanitizers for use by jurors.
We ask all jurors to bring their own masks. Those in attendance will be wearing masks.
There are a limited number of local restaurants open for business in the downtown Greensburg area. Take out is available from several restaurants. Jurors may bring a lunch and are encouraged to do so to help reduce foot traffic and to maintain social distancing.
For jury selection (voir dire), there may be up to 50 jurors, plus those in Court with them (Judge, attorneys, defendant, judicial staff). However, jury selection will occur in a large area that accommodates social distancing, consistent with recommendations of Governor Wolf, and therefore those assembled in a room may be many fewer. For trial, the courtroom will serve as the “jury room” for jurors during breaks in the trial rather than the traditional smaller jury deliberation rooms. Jurors will be seated in the courtroom during the trial in a fashion to socially distance jurors.

The Court has many options to address failure to appearing including contempt. However, our Judges are certainly aware of the current health situation and appreciate the willingness of our citizens to serve this important function during these difficult times. Please contact the Jury Service Center, rather than failing to appear without explanation. We will work to accommodate your situation.
