18 Pennsylvania Air National Guard Members Return Home From Kuwait:
Eighteen members of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard were welcomed home in Dauphin County recently. The members of the 193rd Special Operations Group arrived at Harrisburg International Airport from their deployment in Kuwait. Their families and friends stood together with signs to welcome their loved ones home. Read more.
 
193rd Special Operations Wing Provides Non-Stop Hurricane Relief Support:
The 193rd Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron (SOLRS) and other 193rd Special Operations Wing personnel have been working around the clock since late August to provide air transport, troops, equipment and supplies in support of hurricane relief efforts. Read more.

MilitaryShare, a collaborative program of local food banks and the PA National Guard, is desgined to provide fresh, nutritious foods for veterans and military families in need.

The purpose of the Veterans Stand Down is to provide hot meals, clothing, shelter, barbers, employment assistance, benefits and claims assistance, as well as drug & alcohol treatment services to homeless veterans. The program is successful because it brings these services to one location, making them more accessible to homeless veterans.
 
National Cemetery Observes Veterans Day: 
Nov. 5, 2017, 2 p.m., rain or shine
Indiantown Gap National Cemetary, Annville, PA (Lebanon County)
Shuttle bus transportation to and from designated parking areas to the cemetery will be provided. Signs will be posted indicating designated shuttle bus and parking areas. There will be limited handicapped parking on the cemetery grounds. Due to limited seating in the PA Veterans Memorial, it is suggested attendees bring lawn chairs.

On Oct. 26, Universal Pictures and AMC Theaters will give away up to 10,000 free tickets to U.S. veterans and active-duty military service members for DreamWorks Pictures' “Thank You for Your Service,” at more than 400 AMC locations worldwide. The first 25 service members at each location with valid, government-issued identification who request a ticket will be given one free admission to the 7 p.m. preview screening. Read more.
 
RHS Wall Of Honor Opening To Public On Select Dates:
Radnor High School in Wayne, PA (Delaware County) is opening its doors to the public on a select number of dates this school year so the community can view the school's award-winning Wall of Honor veterans memorial. Readshaw's Raiders Ride Again, Raising Civil War Memorial Funds:
State Rep. Harry Readshaw, D-Allegheny, served as host of his 17th Annual "Ride to Gettysburg" with 473 motorcycle riders participating in the ride from Harrisburg, PA (Dauphin County) to Gettysburg, PA (Adams County). "We make the annual trek to support restoration, maintenance and endowment of the Pennsylvania Civil War unit monuments on the Gettysburg battlefield," Rep. Readshaw said. Read more.
 
They Marched 'For The 22' From Washington Crossing To Doylestown:
Area veterans, active duty military members, mothers, doctors and other community members staged a "March for the 22" to raise awareness for the high rate of suicide among U.S. military veterans in Doylestown, PA (Bucks County). During the march that began just after dawn, volunteers, some of whom wore their military uniforms, carried 22-pound packs on their backs while they marched approximately 22 kilometers. Read more.
 
Veterans Honored For Service:
Honesdale, PA (Wayne County) football fans paid tribute to two gentlemen who served their country during the Second World War. Bernie Derrick and Jim Byrnes were feted at a special pre-game ceremony before the Hornets battled West Scranton. This marked the Wayne Highlands School District’s inaugural “Veterans Appreciation Night,” an event many hope will become an annual tradition during football season. Read more.

Looking around Summerville (Jefferson County) it occurred to Colleen Cooney that something was missing. There was no veterans’ memorial in the borough. Inspired by her daughter, a veteran of 16 years in the U.S. Air Force, Cooney decided something should be done about filling that vacancy. Read more.
