COVID-19 Deaths

The Westmoreland County Coroner's Office provides real-time updates for COVID-19 deaths in Westmoreland County.  You can find these updates on the Coroner's website as well as Westmoreland County's COVID-19 website.  Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 49 deaths as of August 31, 2020

CORONER vs. PA DOH Death Count:
The Coroner’s report of deaths is an accurate report of the deaths that actually occurred within Westmoreland County, whether that be within the hospital, a nursing home, or residence.

The reason the PA DOH is reporting more deaths is because under a pandemic their reporting is done via residency. Therefore even if the death occurred in a hospital or nursing home in another county, as long as that individual still maintains a street address in Westmoreland County it gets added to our County’s total.
