Smithton American Legion family to honor Vietnam War Veterans

SMITHTON, Pa. (July 26, 2022) Members from Smithton American Legion Post 790, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Riders and Legion Auxiliary will honor Vietnam Veterans on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

Those who served in and during the Vietnam War will be honored during a ceremony at the Smithton American Legion Park near the corner of 1st and Center Streets in Smithton. The Smithton American Legion is presenting a Vietnam War Veteran Tribute starting at 1:00 p.m.. The Smithton post is inviting all Vietnam Veterans, their families, and surviving spouses and family members to attend the event, which is designed to honor and remember the men and women who served. Veterans do not need to be a member of the American Legion to attend. All Vietnam Veterans are strongly encouraged to RSVP if attending.

Living U.S. Veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 regardless of location are eligible to receive the commemorative pin.

The Smithton American Legion is partnering with the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration in presenting the event. The post has been a Vietnam Commemorative partner member since 2016. Guests of honor include Gold Start Families and Vietnam Veterans. The speaker for the August 13th even is Command Sgt. Maj. James Hill, U.S. Army (Ret.). Vietnam Veteran and Post-9/11 Veteran, former Military & Veterans Liaison for Congressman Murphy (2010-2013).

Attendees are invited and encouraged to visit the Traveling Vietnam Wall and 9/11 Wall, coordinated by Bikers Helping Others and other volunteers and generous sponsors. Both will be on display at the Smithton Ballfield from August 11-14th with the escort of the walls taking place on August 10th. Both events are within walking distance of one another.
