[ARCHIVED] Creating Welcoming Services for LGBTQ Individuals and Their Families

A one day training examining the effects of language, culture, and power dynamics on the developing person hood of those who carry the labels represented in LGBTQ/SOGIE.   We will also examine our own biases, values and thinking, conditioned by our own upbringing, acculturation, and knowledge.  Our focus will be on ways to become more truly welcoming and affirming to all persons who differ from us and learn from them how to be helpful as part of a healing community of support.  There will be an emphasis on affirming service for people who are transgender.

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (Includes a 1-hour lunch break)

Registration is limited to 50 participants.

All participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Continuing Education Credits:  Five (5) CEUs once approved.

  • To learn some common language used to describe various genders, gender identities and sexual orientations
  • To learn the 6 basic steps of Gender Emergence
  • To learn the 6 basic steps of coming out
  • To identify at least 3 health disparities among LGBTQI+ individuals
  • To identify at least 3 steps I can take to help create a more welcoming and affirming environment for LGBTQ individuals at my organization
