August Events

Thursday, August 1st - Gardening Workshop for Veterans: Vegetable Garden, at the Butler VA, from 10AM-12PM. This is part 4 in a 4-part series of gardening workshops to be hosted by the Butler VA this summer. Registration is required for this FREE workshop. 

Saturday, August 3rd - Yoga & Smoothies event at Veterans Leadership Program, from 10AM-12PM. FREE childcare will be provided onsite.This event is open to Women Veterans and women service providers from local VSO's. RSVP required to Patti at 412-254-3194 or [email protected] 

Sunday, August 4th - VLP's Shoot Like A Girl - Women Veterans Range Day at Clairton Sportsman's Club, from 9AM-2PM. Registration for this event is full. Stay tuned for more range days in the future!

Tuesday, August 6th - LGBT Veteran Support Group, from 1-2:30PM. Contact Abbie Lieberum at 412-678-7704 for more information 

Monday, August 12th - A Night of Storytelling, with VBC at Night and VLP's Women Veterans program, at Spoonwood Brewery in Dormont, from 6:30-8:30PM. RSVP required to Ellie 412-623-9029 or [email protected]. **We are looking for 10 Women Veterans who are interested in sharing a story about their military service at this event. If you would like to share your story, please reach out to Lauren DelRicci at 412-847-8349 to sign-up! Everyone is welcome! Come support our Women Vets! 

Friday, August 16th - Women Veterans Resource Fair at the Oakland VA, from 10AM-1PM. Please RSVP to 412-360-3500. You can also call with questions and suggestions for resources (see the "WomenVetsResourceFairVA" attachment for more info).

Friday, August 16th - Veterans Appreciation Picnic with the White Oak Vet Center at the Magnolia Pavilion in White Oak Park, from 3-7PM. RSVP to Lee Wagner at 412-678-7704 (see the "Veterans-Picnic_Vet-Center" attachment for more information).

This month our speaker is Crystal McFadden, who is a Navy Veteran and the Pittsburgh Program Manager for Corporate America Supports You (CASY). Her presentation is titled, Working Women: the work women do to make it work. FREE childcare will be available onsite for this event; lunch is provided. Saturday, August 24th - Women Veterans needed to participate in a study - Toward Mental Health Equity, Empowering Female Veterans: Promoting Mental Health First Aid - from 9AM-5PM, at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary – 616 North Highland Ave East Liberty Neighborhood - Pittsburgh, PA 15206
