Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum and The Pittsburgh Chapter of Pets for Vets at Animal Friends are proud partners of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day Commemoration Ceremony on June 6, 2019 starting at 9:30am at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum.
We would like to invite you to attend this commemoration ceremony which will include proclamations read by both County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and City of Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto on the front patio of Soldiers & Sailors. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the auditorium.
In attendance will be World War II Veteran Glenn Kempf who will be recognized for his actions as a medic on D-Day. Glenn helped establish the first hospital on Omaha Beach for which he received the French Medal of Honor.
We also will be honored to have the family of Medal of Honor Recipient and Pittsburgh native Technician Fifth Grade John J. Pinder in attendance. Pinder posthumously received the Medal of Honor for actions on Omaha Beach on D-Day. The citation for the medal will be read at the ceremony. Please note the museum will be open after the ceremony and will feature a special D-Day 75 exhibit.
