Adjutant General, Senior Leaders Visit Pennsylvania National Guard Members In Texas Preparing To Deploy To Poland: 

Today, Maj. Gen. Tony Carrelli and other senior military leaders from the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) visited approximately 500 Pennsylvania National Guard (PNG) members in Texas preparing to deploy to Poland. The troops are assigned to 3rd Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment and have been participating in a culminating exercise and preparing for movement overseas as part of NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence mission. To further honor and preserve the memory of our veterans for future generations, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C. is leading an initiative to locate a photo for every U.S. service member who died during Vietnam. "Not A Picnic" – Korean War Vets Share Stories: 

The Traveling Korean War Memorial is coming to the Greene County Fairgrounds from May 31 through June 2, 2019. The Greene County Veterans Council is looking to honor local Korean War veterans, living or deceased, at the memorial. To be featured in the memorial, veterans or their families can fill out forms, available at any Greene County Veterans Council location or by calling Rick Black at 724-998-0598. 1.7 million Americans who served in the Korean War, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which lasted from 1950 to 1953. 28th Infantry Division Army Band To Perform This Summer By Conneaut Lake (Crawford County): 

The 28th Infantry Division Army Band, considered one of the premier military bands in the nation, will perform at the borough's Ice House Park on June 30. Read more.

Drug Take Back Program Targets Prescription Drugs: 

The state Attorney General’s Drug Take Back Program has destroyed more than 100 tons of prescription drugs since January 2017. By partnering with local and state law enforcement, district attorneys, PA Department of Drug and Alcohol programs, and the PA National Guard, collection boxes are set up across the commonwealth for residents to dispose of unnecessary or expired prescription medications from their homes. Erie County Veterans Check Out Resource And Job Expo: 

Veterans were recently connected to valuable community resources when PA Senator Dan Laughlin teamed up with Mercyhurst University to host the 2019 Veterans Resource and Job Expo. The annual event allowed veterans to gain access to benefits and services that are available to them. The expo featured Maj. Gen. Tony Carrelli, PA's adjutant general and head of DMVA. Watch video.

Local Veteran Steps Up To New Challenge – Teaching 8th Grade History Class: 

A social studies teacher at Allen Middle School in Camp Hill (Cumberland County) proves he is a hero in and outside of the classroom. Edwards Little was just recommended by the Senate Sub-Committee to be promoted to Brigadier General in the Army National Guard. He has also taught eighth grade history for the past 25 years. State Police, Troop C, Camp Cadet Has Openings: 

The Pennsylvania State Police, Troop C, Camp Cadet Program will be held at Clarion University, July 28 through Aug. 2. The camp is for boys and girls, 12 to 14 years of age, from Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Forest, Jefferson, McKean and Northern Indiana counties. Campers will stay at the university for the entire week. Veteran Support Organization Honors Fallen, Brings Awareness To Suicide Prevention: 

Every day, 17 veterans die by suicide, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It's one of the reasons an organization in Dickson City (Lackawanna County) is honoring fallen soldiers and bringing awareness to suicide prevention. Veteran's Promise, a support organization, is fulfilling its promise, by helping veterans and families fighting a battle within and never forgetting the ones lost by suicide. Read more.

Veterans Housing Project Planned For North Hill District In New Castle (Lawrence County): 

The Human Services Center plans to create 37 apartments for homeless veterans. The project is being done in partnership with Soldier On, which provides case management services for veterans and their families in Pennsylvania. Read more.

Veterans Spotlight—George Woolfe: 

At 94 years young, George Woolfe is engaging, affable, and a man who has carried himself with immeasurable class throughout his life. Born in Harrisburg, PA, he grew up in Manhattan and later received a degree from Columbia University. Mr. Woolfe’s father, Irving (known to everyone as Ike), was a decorated flier in World War I. Marine Corps Veteran Creates ‘Operation Coffee’ To Raise Awareness, Money To Help Prevent Veteran Suicide: 

A Marine veteran who served in Afghanistan is making his philosophy a reality with Operation Coffee, where 10 percent of every sale goes toward veterans’ suicide prevention. Motivated to try and make a difference following the suicide of a veteran friend, Sam Floyd now operates his small-batch roasting operation out of the former First Baptist Church, which also has become his home. Marine Veteran Crawls On His Hands And Knees To Finish The Boston Marathon: 

Marine veteran, Micah Herndon, was determined to finish the Boston Marathon even if he had to crawl across the finish line. The Afghanistan Veteran's legs locked out around mile 22 forcing him to complete the remainder of the race on his hands and knees. His determination was prompted by the memory of three of his comrades who lost their lives in a bombing attack while overseas. Read more.

Governor Wolf Announces BrightFarms, Inc. To Construct A Hydroponic Greenhouse And Create New Jobs In Snyder County: 

Governor Tom Wolf announced that BrightFarms, Inc., a producer of locally grown leafy greens and herbs, will expand into Pennsylvania by constructing a new hydroponic greenhouse. The project is expected to create more than 50 jobs at the selected Snyder County project site. Read more.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Workshop:

- ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first-aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop, ASIST can be learned and used by anyone. You must attend both days to receive a certificate.

Heroes On The Water will be providing free fishing kayaks to fish with them. Paddle. Fish. Heal. Jim's Live Bait & Tackle will be providing FREE motor boats, row boats and additional kayaks (first come first serve, no reservations taken). Along with free rental rods and bait. We will host a free fishing demonstration for those who are interested. Free chow provided! A pig roast, pulled pork, Gi's Chili, hamburgers and hot dogs, cold salads and non alcoholic drinks. 3rd Annual Cambria County Hero Hike:

- The Hero Hike starts at the Nanty Glo Trailhead and will end at the Ebensburg Trailhead at noon, with a ceremony to follow
