DMVA And Department Of Agriculture To Host Veterans, Military & Their Families Day At The 103rd PA Farm Show:

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is partnering with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture to host Veterans, Military & Their Families Day on Thursday, January 10, 2019, as part of the 103rd PA Farm Show. Chair Appointed To State Veterans Affairs And Emergency Preparedness Committee:

State Sen. Mike Regan, who represents Carlisle and eastern Cumberland County, has been appointed chair of the PA Senate’s Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. Read more.

First Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) Female Aviator Trains In Pennsylvania:

Eastern Army National Guard Aviation Training Site (EAATS) and Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) military officials met recently to honor another milestone in the U.S. and Jordanian training alliance. Eastern AATS and RJAF aviators have conducted more than 25 years of UH-1 Huey and UH-60 Black Hawk virtual flight training at the Fort Indiantown Gap (FTIG) National Guard Training Center in central Pennsylvania (Lebanon County). Read more.

Greencastle Students Honor, Raise Funds In Support Of Veterans:

Greencastle-Antrim (Franklin County) High School students honored veterans and completed a fundraiser for two veterans’ organizations during the last two months of 2018. The annual Veterans Day assembly was held Nov. 12, 2018, during school hours. The assembly also launched a fundraising effort that culminated with $500 collected through the sale of patriotic buttons in support of veterans’ groups.Read more.

JFT Recovery And Veterans Support Services Opening Women's Veterans Home:

JFT Recovery and Veterans Support Services is opening a women's veterans home in Susquehanna Township (Dauphin County). Ally Murr served in the U.S. Army and is the center's veterans coordinator and is spearheading the project.Watch.

Nominate A Veteran For Female Veterans Day:

Continuing the Wolf Administration’s effort to support women in the commonwealth and recognize those women who have served their country through the military, the Pennsylvania Commission for Women is seeking statewide nominations for its fourth annual Female Veterans Day Ceremony as part of Women’s History Month in March 2019. The event will take place at the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg and veterans selected will be honored by Governor Tom Wolf and First Lady Frances Wolf. Nominations are due by Feb. 1, 2019, and may be submitted online here.

Welcome Home – Matt Gabler's Return From Active Duty In Middle East:

State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) was welcomed home by his alma mater, DuBois Central Catholic School, and the community after spending nearly all of 2018 in the Middle East with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. “Let’s celebrate the accomplishments of somebody who I look up to ... for his accomplishments and what he’s done for his community and how hard he works for his constituents,” said state Rep. Disabled Veterans Can Now Fly Space-A:

Recent legislation makes it possible for many disabled veterans to fly Space-A on military aircraft. The 2019 National Defense Authorization Act allows veterans with a permanent and total service-connected Department of Veterans Affairs disability rating to travel space available on military aircraft. Read more.

GI Bill Transfer Changes You’ll Need To Know About In 2019:

The Pentagon changed the rules for troops who want to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to their dependents. Most notably, the new policy will end transfers for service members who have been in uniform longer than 16 years, starting in July 2019. Read more.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that veterans interested in registering for the 2019 National Veterans Wheelchair Games, can do so online now through April 15, 2019. Presented by the VA and Paralyzed Veterans of America, events for veterans who use wheelchairs will be held July 11-16, 2019, at Robley Rex VA Medical Center in Louisville, KY. Read more.

VA Partners With The Independence Fund To Help Prevent Veteran Suicide:

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced its partnership with The Independence Fund to provide wellness and mental health education to veterans, caregivers and families. VA and The Independence Fund will collaborate on suicide prevention initiatives to connect veterans with care and support before they reach a crisis point. Read more.

Veteran Lets Service Dog Tell His Sight Loss Story:

Coast Guard veteran D.K. Adams has channeled his struggles with losing his sight into writing a series of books, including three children’s books, starring his service dog, Ace. "I can educate others about what service dogs can do.” Read more.

January is National Blood Donor Month, time to recognize the lifesaving contribution of blood and platelet donors. As we begin the new year, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) encourages all of us to resolve to roll up a sleeve and give blood throughout 2019.
