Join us this year for the annual March for Parks, a fun event organized to bring local communities together in a significant way to support Westmoreland County trails and parks.

The march will be held in two locations on Saturday, March 30, from 9:00am to 12:00pm.  The Murrysville March for Parks will be held at the Community Center with proceeds primarily benefiting the extension of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail (WHT) eastward to Export. Funds from the Twin Lakes Park march in Greensburg will be used for building a new Giant Slide in Mammoth Park and a destination playground and sledding and tubing area at Cedar Creek Park.

Community and business participation are essential contributors to the success of the annual march. Already groups are forming teams and collecting money for the March, while local businesses are contributing as sponsors, in-kind donors of food or activities, or towards a raffle or silent auction item. Together we are making a real difference not only in funds raised, but in demonstrating to other funders of our county parks and trails that there is tremendous community support for these projects and worth their support as well.

Registration at the March for Parks in Murrysville begins at 9:00 am.  The march (not mandatory, but fun) begins at 10:30 am.  Come learn about exciting future trail and park plans, our region’s rich heritage, and local community groups. There will be lots of fun activities for adults and children at both locations.

At Murrysville, dress your dog in its best costume for the dog parade, get crafty and decorate your bike for the bike decorating contest, snack on tasty food, take a chance at raffle baskets and silent auction, and the pop-up used bike sale returns for another year! If you would like to donate your used bike of good condition, you may do so during normal business hours at:  MC2 Friends’ Thrift Shop in Export, Pro Bike + Run in Monroeville, and the Westmoreland County Parks Office in Greensburg.

At Twin Lakes, there will be raffles, silent auctions, bird house painting, face painting and balloon animals, caricature drawings, a giant soccer dart board, yoga and fitness demonstrations, music, tasty food, and more!!!

Additional information is available at www.co.westmoreland.pa.us/MFP or search for Westmoreland County March for Parks.  Here you can register, make donations, and learn about forming teams.

Now in its 17th year, overall proceeds from the March for Parks are expected to top $1 million dollars raised for Westmoreland County Park projects and trails! Please keep this momentum going and support the March for Parks today!
