[ARCHIVED] Info for Justice-involved Veterans

Westmoreland County has a veteran population of approximately 28,000, according to VA estimates.  Westmoreland County and Westmoreland County Courts would like to remind those who have served, as well as friends, family and attorneys who represent those who have served, that we have resources available to you.  Please tell us that you have served, so that we can link our resources to those who have committed themselves to us through their military service.  We thank you for your service!

  • that the Westmoreland County Department of  Veterans Affairs has a web page with resources, including information for the outpatient clinic, shuttle transportation to the 2 VAHS Pittsburgh medical facilities, benefits for veterans, links to useful resources,  and even local events?  The web page is at:  https://www.co.westmoreland.pa.us/390/Veterans-Affairs. The department is staffed by 3 accredited Veterans Service Officers and a department clerk and is overseen by Matt Zamosky, MSgt retired, USAF.  The office assists with applying for all VA benefits and can be reached at 724-830-3530 or [email protected]
  • that Westmoreland County Magisterial District and Common Pleas Judges would like to know if you have ever served, so that they may consider whether it is appropriate to connect you to treatment sources, and possibly reduce or dismiss the charges if you comply with treatment.  Please report the fact that you have served in the military to the Judge or Magisterial District Judge who hears your case.
  • that Veterans Justice Outreach Coordinator, Keather Likins, can help to determine if you are eligible for certain benefits connected to your criminal charges?  Keather serves as the court liaison for western Pennsylvania counties and can be reached at: 412-735-4603 & [email protected]
  • If you are currently on any type of Court ordered supervision or are anticipating entering a plea or the ARD program in the next 30 days, the Adult Probation office wants to know if you are a Veteran, so that they may connect you with available resources.  Resource qualifications vary according to the veteran’s service and discharge type.  Please tell your probation officer, or contact Adult Probation Supervisor Pat Michaels, with any additional questions at 724-830-3704 or [email protected]

We have resources available to our Westmoreland County Veterans, but we need your assistance to identify our vets.  Please help us by sending this to any vets you know.  We will work to coordinate our resources to our servicemen and women.
