[ARCHIVED] Keeping Kids Safe on Smartphones--Sept. 12, Latrobe

Nationally certified and licensed professional counselor Ryan Klingensmith will present the program, “Creating Responsible Kids on Smartphones,” at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at Latrobe Presbyterian Church, 428 Main St., Latrobe.

“Creating Responsible Kids on Smartphones” will define categories of social networking that professionals, parents, grandparents and guardians should be aware of and listening for with their children.

The free presentation will review internet image boards, untraceable texting/sexting, internet predators, gossip/rumor spreading, video chatting, blogs, eating disorders, self-harm and suicide. Current social media sites such as Instagram, Saraha, VSCO, Tublr, Kik and Snapchat will be defined and youth culture and mental health practices on these sites/apps will be discussed.

The presentation will also raise the awareness of teen culture on the internet — such as internet lingo — and how adults can communicate and help educate youth on being responsible digital citizens.

To register for the presentation, call Latrobe Presbyterian Church at 724-537-3631.
