On February 8, 2018, 7:00 PM at the Italian American Club located at 5930 Kennedy Avenue in Export, PA, design plans prepared by Mackin Engineering Company will be presented and discussed. This Public Forum is open to all who are interested in the Heritage Trail (WHT).
Phase IV of the WHT is planned to extend from where Phase III ends in Murrysville, near the Roberts Trail Access, eastward about 3.3 miles to Lincoln Avenue in Export. This hiking and biking trail extension will be very similar to what was built between Trafford and Murrysville (as Phase III) in 2017. These phases of the WHT are being constructed along Turtle Creek, within property owned by Westmoreland County, which had previously been part of the Turtle Creek Industrial Railroad.
The Westmoreland Heritage Trail Chapter February meeting will follow the public forum on Phase IV. Plans will be discussed for the upcoming 2018 March for Parks, a fundraising event that focuses on funding new park and trail facilities in Westmoreland County.
At this year’s March for Parks, hosted at the Murrysville Community Center on Saturday, March 24, we will showcase the trail plans and garner support for WHT Phase IV. To help fund the Heritage Trail, we are encouraging trail users to enter the March. Every person that raises $25 or more will receive a 2018 March for Parks t-shirt. All March participants are eligible to win Gift Cards based upon donations collected. Business sponsorships are also available at various levels; sponsorship of the March provides an opportunity of high value publicity at low cost. To register for the March or obtain additional information visit the parks website at www.co.westmoreland.pa.us/parks.
