[ARCHIVED] Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week continues

November 11 – 19, 2017 is dedicated to Hunger and Homelessness Awareness.  This week is designated to educate the public, draw attention to the problem of poverty, and build up the base of volunteers and supporters for local anti-poverty agencies. Groups spend this week generating publicity about hunger and homelessness and holding a series of events to engage their communities.  Several Human Service and anti-poverty agencies in Westmoreland County are holding their own events and are listed below.

Friday, November 17 – 11:30am to 1pm
Speakers, Resources & Refreshments, Westmoreland County Courthouse
Commissioner Gina Cerilli, Westmoreland County
Commissioner Ted Kopas, Westmoreland County
Commissioner Charles Anderson, Westmoreland County
Kris Douglas, Westmoreland County Food Bank
Deb Thackrah, Feeding the Spirit

The following agencies will have a table set up:
Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging, Feeding the Spirit, Southwest Behavioral Care, Inc.,
Westmoreland Community Action, WCSI, Westmoreland County Food Bank, Union Mission of Latrobe,
Westmoreland County Transit Authority, Westmoreland Housing Authority,
PA Link and Welcome Home Shelter.

We are asking everyone to wear RED for Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness (ECYEH).  All students have the right to a free, public and appropriate education. Being homeless can create barriers. The E.C.Y.E.H. works to provide services to all children and youth experiencing homelessness by offering services to help eliminate those barriers.

Hot dogs and water will be sold for $1.00 – any proceeds from the refreshments will go to the Human Services Committee.
