Veteran Farmer Trail Tour:

The Pennsylvania Veteran Farming Project has organized the Veteran Farm Trail on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 to give people a chance to visit a farm and learn how the farmer transitioned from military service to agriculture. Read more.

Program Feeds Veterans In Need:

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank provides nearly 650,000 meals to people in need each week. Twenty-six percent of midstate households receiving food assistance have at least one member who has served in the military. Now, the food bank has come up with another way to help those heroes. Vietnam Memorial In Washington, D.C. Still Needs To Locate 61 Photos From Pennsylvania:

Help honor the men and women from Pennsylvania who paid the ultimate sacrifice as a result of the Vietnam War. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund virtual Wall of Faces in Washington, D.C. still needs to locate 61 photos from 14 different counties in Pennsylvania. Annual VSO Continuing Education Conference:

Maj. Gen. Tony Carrelli, Pennsylvania’s adjutant general, delivered keynote remarks at the Veterans Service Officer Continuing Education Conference in Erie, PA (Erie County). Veterans Service Officers assist Pennsylvania’s veterans in realizing their earned benefits. Read more.

Lancaster County Scout Troop Seeks To Honor Every Indiantown Gap Gravesite Through Wreaths Across America Efforts:

For the past decade or so, volunteers have gathered in the mid-December chill to lay wreaths graveside at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA (Lebanon County). But it’s not really about the wreaths, says Nina Evans. It’s about honoring those service members who are buried there. Evans, who is Wreaths Across America chair for Boy Scout Troop 64 in Rohrerstown, PA says the troop has a goal this year: to make sure a wreath is sponsored for each grave at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. New Technology Gives Detailed Look At Brain Injuries:

A new type of brain scan being researched at the University of Pittsburgh at Pitt-Johnstown, gives doctors a detailed look at what one might call the "wiring" of the brain, making it much easier to diagnose and understand traumatic brain injuries. This information could be revolutionary for veterans who return home with traumatic brain injuries. Read more.

Paul R. Gordon Veterans Social Center Opens In Reading:

The Paul R. Gordon Veterans Social Center recently opened at the Hope Rescue Mission, at 645 N. Sixth St., Reading, PA (Berks County). Funds for the project were raised in part by an annual Veterans Day event sponsored by Customers Bank. Read more.

Pennsylvania National Guard Sends Medical Personnel And Equipment To The U.S. Virgin Islands As Part Of Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts:

The Pennsylvania National Guard sent 20 soldiers to the U.S. Virgin Islands in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The mission is to provide first aid, point of injury care and sick call for the service members who are providing relief to civilians there. In addition, they will be providing urgent care to civilians on the islands of St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix. Read more.

RHS Wall Of Honor Opening To Public On Select Dates:

Radnor High School in Wayne, PA (Delaware County) is opening its doors to the public on a select number of dates this school year so the community can view the school's award-winning Wall of Honor veterans memorial. The public is invited to see the wall, which commemorates the 57 RHS graduates who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, on six separate dates. Read more.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Louis A. Johnson VAMC Women’s Clinic has exciting news. The Women’s Clinic in its commitment to giving the best and most advanced screening detection has acquired a new state of the art 3D imaging mammography unit. Read more.

Cost Of Military Transgender Care In The Spotlight:

The cost of transgender health care is in the spotlight, both for veterans, and for active duty transgender troops. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced shortly after President Donald Trump was elected that it was going to drop plans to cover those surgeries in part because of cost. Read more.

The Brilliance Of The Women Code Breakers Of World War II:

In the past few years, forgotten women of science, from the genteel astronomers who classified the stars at the Harvard Observatory in the 1890s to the African American mathematicians who staffed NASA in the 1960s, have been rescued and celebrated.

Troops Open Health Clinics In Puerto Rico:

Military forces providing relief efforts in Puerto Rico have opened two temporary hospitals to try and relieve the overburdened emergency rooms on the island. The medical facilities join the 250 bed U.S. Naval Ship Comfort in supporting Health and Human Services Disaster Medical Assistance Teams. Read more.

VA, Congress Crawl Toward Ending Abuse Of Vet Pensioners:

In 2012, the Government Accountability Office found more than 200 financial planning firms and estate law offices enticing veterans or their survivors into costly annuities or irrevocable trusts intended to hide or reallocate their assets so they qualify for VA pensions that the claimants wouldn’t be eligible for otherwise. Since then, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Congress have been crawling toward actions to stop the abusive practices. Read more.

Shell Urges Veterans To Train For Beaver County Cracker Plant Jobs:

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a series of veterans town hall meetings for fiscal year 2018. If you cannot make it personally please join the town hall meetings on Facebook. National Cemetery Observes Veterans Day:

Nov. 5, 2017, 2 p.m., rain or shine
Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetary, Annville, PA (Lebanon County)
Shuttle bus transportation to and from designated parking areas to the cemetery will be provided. Signs will be posted indicating designated shuttle bus and parking areas. There will be limited handicapped parking on the cemetery grounds. Due to limited seating in the PA Veterans Memorial, it is suggested attendees bring lawn chairs.

The event to honor all branches of the armed forces, also will feature musical performances by Upper St. Clair High School’s marching band and Chanteclairs. The Rev. Valerian Michlik of St. Gregory Byzantine Catholic Church, will deliver the invocation and benediction.
