Consider Donating To The Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial Trust Fund: 

Patriotic citizens of the Commonwealth often reach out to the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs asking how they can show their support for veterans. Donating to the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial Trust Fund is the perfect way to extend that support. The trust fund supports the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial, located at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA (Lebanon County). Free Making $ense Of Finance Conference Held For Service Members: 

Pennsylvania Military Finance Alliance, a cooperative effort that includes the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, is sponsoring a free one-day conference to educate members of the military and their families on the unique financial and investment decisions they will face. The “Making $ense of Finance” conference will take place at the Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA (Franklin County) on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration and conference information are available at Free Making $ense Conference.

PADMVA Hosts Special Screening Of The Vietnam War Documentary: 

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is partnering with WITF to present a special screening of THE VIETNAM WAR – a landmark PBS documentary film series by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. The free screening begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Liberty USO Bldg. 13-190, located at the intersection of Asher Miner and Clement roads at Fort Indiantown Gap in Annville, PA (Lebanon County). Agriculture Secretary Honors Veteran Farmers As Newest Members Of Homegrown By Heroes: 

On the final day of Ag Progress Days, State Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding honored two military veterans-turned-farmers as the newest members of Pennsylvania’s Homegrown By Heroes program. “Two percent of Americans are farmers, and two percent of Americans serve in the military. It is a special honor to stand here with two men who have dedicated their lives to feeding us and protecting us,” Secretary Redding said. “The Homegrown By Heroes program recognizes the special contribution of our veteran farmers.” Read more.

Lebanon VA Surgeon Helps Veterans Live Normal Lives: 

The first time Vietnam War Army veteran Dennis Korzi needed a shoulder replacement, he trusted his doctor's recommendation for a surgeon. The next year, when the Richland-area resident needed his other shoulder replaced, he knew from experience who he wanted to do the operation: Orthopedic Surgeon Rex Herbert, who left a booming private practice in Harrisburg in 2009 to join the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Plans Inch Forward To Convert Former SCI Greensburg Into Veterans Center: 

Four years after state officials turned out the lights and locked the doors, a former medium-security state prison in Hempfield Township, PA (Westmoreland County) may be poised to become a full-service veterans transition center. David Goldsmith, the Carlisle businessman who bought the 300,000-square-foot facility in 2015, first broached the possibility in a regional construction publication and a YouTube video last year. Prisoner Of War Shares Story Of Survival: 

Edward Hubbard said he hasn't had a bad day since 1966. That's when his plane was shot down while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was captured and spent more than six years, seven months as a prisoner in North Vietnam. Hubbard said it was during that time he realized "bad days" are relative. Read more.

Once Homeless, Iraq War Veteran Moves Into Unique New Home: 

Vernon Poling was 44 years old when he finally got a home of his own. The Iraq War veteran was medically discharged from the Army in 2014, had to quit his trucking job for medical reasons, and found himself living out of his pickup last year in Orange County, Calif. Read more.

Trump Signs Off On Global War On Terror Memorial: 

More than 15 years into the Global War on Terrorism, President Trump signed a bill approving the construction of a national memorial honoring those who have fought and died in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001. Read more.

Gov. Wolf Announces Expansion Of Clarion Sintered Metals In Elk County: 

Gov. Tom Wolf announced Clarion Sintered Metals (CSM), a powdered metal company primarily serving the automotive component industry, will expand both of its facilities in Ridgway, Elk County, and create 55 new Pennsylvania jobs. “It’s great to see yet another manufacturer expanding right here in Pennsylvania,” Governor Wolf said. VA Is Looking For Medical Center Directors To Honor America’s Veterans In These Critical Positions: 

The recent “Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act of 2017,” dramatically speeds up hiring of medical center and network director positions. Thanks to the new law, VA now has the flexibility to hire qualified health care executives expeditiously to lead its key health care organizations without going through a previously cumbersome and time-consuming hiring process.
