 Around the State 

Bikers Ride To Benefit Veterans Service Canine Program In Lancaster County: 

Motorcyclists met at the Marietta American Legion in Lancaster County and traveled to the American Legions in Shiloh and Red Lion, both in York County, before heading back to Marietta. The non-profit program provides service dogs and training to honorable combat Pennsylvania veterans. Read more.

Fort Indiantown Gap Announces August Live-Fire Exercises: 

Fort Indiantown Gap National Guard Training Center is scheduled to host a series of live-fire exercises during August. The exercises include demolitions training Aug. 3-13 and Aug. 29, 8 a.m.-11 p.m. This schedule could change based on the training mission. Read more.

New Veterans Health Care Center Opens Next Month: 

The new U.S. Veterans Affairs Butler Health Care Center will open to veterans on Sept. 5. The new center is located at 353 North Duffy Rd., Butler County, approximately 1.4 miles from the existing campus. It includes primary care, specialty care, mental health, dental, diagnostic, laboratory, pathology, radiology, podiatry, optometry, pharmacy, physical rehabilitation, and women’s health. Read more.

On Jobs That Pay Tour, Governor Wolf Visits Logistics Plus Inc.: 

Gov. Tom Wolf today visited Logistics Plus, Inc., a worldwide supply chain management company, to meet with employees and view the company’s plans for the expansion of its headquarters in the City of Erie. “It’s exciting to be in Erie touring another thriving company,” said Governor Wolf. “I am committed to supporting the growing business climate in region and love to see first-hand what an innovative company like Logistics Plus has planned for the future.” Read more.

PA-HART Trains With Chinook: 

The Pennsylvania Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (PA-HART) held an exercise in York County focused on the movement of multiple Pennsylvania Volunteer Rescue Service Recognition (VRSR) water rescue teams. Read more.

U.S. Army Disposes Of More Than 700 Civil War-Era Cannonballs At Fort Indiantown Gap: 

Members of the U.S. Army and the Pennsylvania National Guard teamed up with civilian authorities to demolish hundreds of Civil War-era cannonballs. Read more.

Governor Wolf Announces Socafe To Relocate To Pennsylvania And Create 130 New Jobs In Lackawanna County: 

Gov. Tom Wolf announced that Socafe, a coffee manufacturer and distributor, will relocate and expand its operations from New Jersey to Pennsylvania and create 130 new jobs in Lackawanna County. “With access to a skilled workforce, extensive infrastructure and committed state and local partners, manufacturers and distributers like Socafe can thrive here,” said Governor Wolf. State Sen. Lisa Baker (R-Lehman Township) invites veterans of all ages and from all service eras to utilize the Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars Service Officer Network to receive free information and assistance for government benefits including veterans affairs healthcare, compensation, pension, education and dependent benefits. Surviving spouses can also use these service officers at no charge to learn about their eligibility for VA benefits.

The VBC is a nonprofit that creates communities of listening around veterans and their stories. Storytelling events, both morning and night, are held throughout Western Pennsylvania. Veterans from World War II to Iraq and Afghanistan share their stories.
This is open to the public, and you don’t need to be a veteran to attend.

Pennsylvania’s 24th Annual Ride For Freedom Motorcycle Ride: 

Aug. 27, 9-11 a.m. with kickstands up at 11:30 a.m. Ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The main staging area will be located at 5th and Franklin streets in Womelsdorf, PA (western Berks County).
