Not a veteran, but want to support them? Purchase an “Honoring Our Veterans” Pennsylvania license plate today! Available for passenger cars, motorcycles and light duty trucks up to 10,000 pounds, an Honoring Our Veterans license plate costs $35, with $15 dollars benefitting Pennsylvania’s Veterans’ Trust Fund (VTF). The VTF issues grants to statewide charitable organizations that aid veterans service organizations and county directors of veterans affairs in assisting veterans in need of shelter and necessities of living. Pennsylvania Children Of The Wounded And Fallen Patriot Scholarship Deadline Is Aug. 1st: 

The Pennsylvania Children of the Wounded and Fallen Patriot Scholarship is a one-time, $25,000 scholarship, awarded to the dependent child of a military service member who was wounded in the line of duty or died while serving with the United States Military since Sept. 11, 2001. PTSD Disability Claims By Vets Tripled In The Last Decade: 

More than one in five veterans receiving federal disability payouts suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a figure that has spiked in the last decade. Veterans affairs officials told lawmakers Tuesday that the number of disability cases related to PTSD has nearly tripled in that time, from around 345,000 cases in fiscal year 2008 to more than 940,000 cases today. DEP Announces Employment Opportunity In Mining Program: 

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has an opening for qualified candidates for a blasting and explosives inspector position in the Pottsville District mining office. Duties include inspection of mining sites, and implementation and monitoring of compliance activities for blasting and surface mining activities in the Reading, Philadelphia, and Allentown areas. Pennsylvania Commission On Crime And Delinquency (PCCD) Is Currently Seeking Peer Reviewers: 

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) is currently seeking peer reviewers for grant applications that will be submitted for an upcoming Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) funding solicitation. PCCD is seeking reviewers with experience in relevant areas such as:
• Victim services (e.g. sexual Assault, domestic violence, child abuse, homicide, elder abuse, human trafficking, comprehensive victim service agencies);
• Social work/human services;
• Law enforcement;
• Criminal/Juvenile Justice;
• Information sharing and technology;
• Substance abuse services;
• Mental health and/or intellectual disability services;
• Senior services, and;
• Services to specific cultural, ethnic or demographic populations in Pennsylvania
Reviewers will be required to participate in a webinar that will provide information and guidance on the funding solicitation and scoring criteria. All reviewing and scoring will be done remotely with a follow-up conference call to discuss the reviews, share information, and identify those applications to be recommended for funding. No in-person meeting is required. Reviewers will be paid $50 per hour and will be required to submit a time and effort report and invoice to PCCD documenting the actual hours worked per application. PCCD will allow a maximum of two hours per application reviewed. Selected reviewers must complete reviews of all assigned applications. No additional fee will be paid for mandatory participation in a scoring reconciliation meeting. Application review will take place between October 16, 2017 and December 8, 2017. Applicants may be required to review 100 applications within the stated eight (8) week period. Members of the First Capitol Detachment, Marine Corps League of York County will hold a service of remembrance in memory of Sgt. John Henry Denig, a Marine who was awarded the Medal of Honor for action during the Battle of Mobile Bay in Aug. of 1864. Denig is one of two Medal of Honor recipients buried at Prospect Hill. James Rada, who wrote The Last to Fall: The 1922 March, Battles, & Deaths of U.S. Marines at Gettysburg has been invited to speak. Also participating in the ceremony are members of the Lancaster Fencibles, 79th PVI, who will provide the Color Guard in Civil War attire.
