[ARCHIVED] Two Latrobe women among 12 sworn in as CASA volunteers

Smail Jr.On May 4, 12 new volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASAs) were sworn into service by Family Court Judge Harry F. Smail, Jr. along with Criminal Court Judge Christopher Feliciani and Family Court Judge Timothy Krieger.

Graduating from the CASA training program are: Morgan Bassett, Jeannette; Emily Charley, Latrobe; Roberta Cook, Delmont; Denis Darsie, Greensburg; Becky Dillon, Greensburg; Kimber Hess, Greensburg; Tiffany King, Monroeville; Richard Rohac, Greensburg; Robert Sattler, Apollo; Marsha Sherman, Monroeville; Kathy Shick, Latrobe, and Michelle Walters, Apollo.

CASA of Westmoreland, Inc. is a volunteer based organization providing a voice in the courts on behalf of abused and neglected children in Westmoreland County. CASA assists the courts to ensure the child’s placement in a safe, permanent and nurturing homes. These volunteers work to ensure the safety and stability of children, through collaboration with a variety of service providers, as they progress through the court system. A loving, secure, and permanent family is always the goal for every child.

Also in attendance at the graduation and swearing in ceremony were Westmoreland County commissioners Charles Anderson and Gina Cerilli; Shara Saveikis, director of the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau; the new advocates’ families and friends; CASA staff; members of the CASA board of directors and CASA Ambassadors.
