April Is Month Of The Military Child: 

April is Month of the Military Child, a month dedicated to honor and celebrate these amazing kids who give a part of their childhood for the good of their country. While it’s our service members on the frontlines, the children they leave behind make immeasurable sacrifices as well. Military children are frequently uprooted and left without a parent during times of deployment.

Honoring Our Veterans License Plates: 

The Honoring Our Veterans standard registration plate is available for passenger cars, motorcycles and light duty trucks up to 10,000 pounds, with a cost of $35. Fifteen dollars from every "Honoring Our Veterans" standard registration plate sold will benefit the Veterans' Trust Fund. To apply for this registration plate, please complete Form MV-914, “Application for Honoring Our Veterans Registration Plate.” Learn more.

Honor Bus With WITF: 

Veterans are invited to join WITF for a special day of gratitude honoring the sacrifices veterans have made for our freedom. WITF’s Vietnam War Stories project, in partnership with Northeastern High School, will host a free Honor Bus trip to Washington, D.C., Saturday, April 22. The trip includes visits to the Vietnam memorials, Arlington National Cemetery and more. Space is limited. Register here. WITF is proud to be able to help bring high school students and veterans together for a day of gratitude through this unique partnership.

Partnership For Youth Success: 

The Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) Program is a strategic partnership between the U.S. Army and a cross section of corporations, companies, and public sector agencies. The program provides America’s youth with an opportunity to serve their country while they prepare for their future. PaYS Partners guarantee soldiers an interview and possible employment after the Army. This unique program is part of the Army’s effort to partner with America’s business community and reconnect America with its Army. Learn more.

VA Awards Grants To Develop Technology To Help Veterans To The University Of Pittsburgh: 

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced today the awarding of $599,802 in Specially Adapted Housing Assistive Technology (SAHAT) grants to eligible individuals, researchers, and organizations to develop new technology that may enhance veterans’ and service members’ ability to live in a specially adapted home. VA Now Providing Online Daily Burial Schedules: 

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently announced a new online Daily Burial Schedule (DBS) for all VA national cemeteries, which will allow families and loved ones to retrieve time and location information for those being interred, via its National Cemetery Administration (NCA) website. “We pride ourselves on continuously improving customer satisfaction and meeting the wishes of veterans and their loved ones,” said interim Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Ronald E. Walters. “We want manageable information for anyone wishing to pay their respects.”

The new feature is available to anyone with a smartphone, tablet or computer. Families may also opt out of using this service. Schedules of interments are posted online and updated hourly at: www.cem.va.gov/dailyburialschedule.The public can search by national cemetery or last name. The DBS will give the scheduled committal service date and time, location of the cemetery and funeral home providing services. The location of the committal shelter will be provided at the cemetery. In addition, users may also navigate to the specific VA national cemetery website for directions and further information.

VA operates 135 national cemeteries and 33 soldiers' lots and monument sites in 40 states and Puerto Rico. More than four million Americans, including veterans of every war and conflict, are buried in VA's national cemeteries. VA also provides funding to establish, expand, improve and maintain 105 veterans cemeteries in 47 states and territories including tribal trust lands, Guam, and Saipan. For veterans not buried in a VA national cemetery, VA provides headstones, markers or medallions to commemorate their service. In 2016, VA honored more than 345,000 veterans and their loved ones with memorial benefits in national, state, tribal and private cemeteries.

VA, DOD Study A Major Breakthrough For Understanding PTSD: 

Researchers from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DOD) recently released findings of a new study called Prospective Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Symptom Trajectories in Active Duty and Separated Military Personnel. This study examines Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms in veterans, compared with active-duty populations. Read more.

Seeking GI Bill Eligible Paid On-Farm Veteran Apprentice In New Alexandria, PA: 

Apprentice will be involved in all aspects of the farm, from field work to the agricultural services portion of the farm. While working closely with the experienced mentor farmer/operator and personnel much of the time, s/he will also have many independent responsibilities. Lone Maple Farms has been in operation since 1920 specializing in grown crops such as, corn, soybeans, wheat, oats, barley and barley straw. They practice no-till farming. Work day is generally 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with ½ hour for lunch), Monday to Friday. Some Saturday mornings may be needed. The schedule may vary slightly with season and task at hand. No drug use, excessive alcohol consumption, or pets on the premises. A valid driver’s license is required. The ability to drive a standard is preferred but not necessary. Pay is $10/per hour to start with increases commensurate with additional duties. Housing may be available. This apprenticeship is pending GI Bill approved for eligible veterans. Vacancies For Five Veterans Employment Representatives: 

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry is currently recruiting to fill five vacancies for the veterans employment representative job titles. There is one vacancy for veterans employment representative 1 in Philadelphia. The agency is willing to fill this vacancy with a service-connected disabled veteran (job code VER1D) or an eligible veteran (job code 06370). There are four vacancies for veterans employment representative 2 -- one in each of the following counties: Allegheny, Berks, Butler, and Dauphin. The agency is willing to fill these positions with a service-connected disabled veteran (job code VER2D), an eligible veteran (job code 06380), or an eligible spouse (job code VER2S).

Log in to the Online Services section of the homepage, and select View Open Announcements & Apply from the menu. Reference announcement #2014-078 for veterans employment representatives to view the minimum requirements for each job title, submit your application and documentation of veterans’ status, and schedule your civil service exam. This program will include an introduction to all the aspects of fly fishing, including: the proper fly fishing equipment and setup, flies and hatches on local trout streams, hands-on fly rod casting instruction, and techniques for catching trout in our local streams. All veterans and active duty military personnel -- join the Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited talented stream mentors to learn fly fishing, improve your existing skills, and learn about conservation projects to keep our streams and watersheds healthy and protected. They provide fishing gear, supplies, fishing license (as needed), a one-year membership to Trout Unlimited, and lots of fun and laughs. This is a family fishing program for veterans. This event is held the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month.
