[ARCHIVED] Attorney general's outreach specialist warns about scams of seniors

Aging Edge: What are the most common scams you caution people about?

Little: There’s always what I call the “scam of the season.” From about January to April it’s the IRS scam, where people call and pretend to be the IRS, and we tell people do not reply to them. Over the summer months it’s contractors, where maybe people want their driveways redone or roofs reshingled, and you see people pretending to be contractors coming up to a house and saying, “I’m from Ray’s Roofing, and I did your neighbor’s house, and if you want me to do some work for you it’ll be a lower price if you pay half up front now.” Then they never show back up to do the job.
