Hempfield Township is the 14th municipality to join in the fight against blight.
Seeking to clear its inventory of abandoned real estate more quickly, Hempfield Township has entered into a partnership with the Westmoreland County Land Bank.
The partnership will enable the township to address more vacant buildings that have fallen into a state of neglect, moving to put them back on the tax rolls by either demolishing or rehabilitating them.
The township currently has identified about 20 such properties whose owners remain unknown, many of them residential, said Doug Weimer, chairman of the board of supervisors. Read full Post-Gazette article
