The Westmoreland County Land Bank is partnering with Youngwood Borough, the Youngwood Ministerium, and Westmoreland Cleanways to recruit volunteers to clean out a blighted residential structure to ready it for rehabilitation. This volunteer event will coincide with Earth Day - Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. - as part of a community-wide effort to stabilize neighborhoods.
Volunteers should meet at 20 South Second Street by 9:00 a.m. and should dress accordingly for the weather. Wearing layers, long pants and boots are strongly encouraged. Gloves and trash bags will be provided. Pre-registration for the event is encouraged. Bring signed forms the day of the clean up.
Local businesses Fox’s Pizza Den, Shrimpo’s Deluxe Pizza and Rocco’s Pizzeria are donating lunch for the volunteers. Any other businesses willing to donate beverages or supplies are encouraged to contact the Land Bank at 724-830-3050.
The mission of the Land Bank is to deter the spread of blight; to promote redevelopment and reuse of vacant, abandoned, and tax-delinquent properties; to support targeted efforts to stabilize neighborhoods; and to stimulate residential, commercial and industrial development while working with local government partners and other community stakeholders.
