[ARCHIVED] Westmoreland County All-Hazards Mitigation Plan

Westmoreland County’s Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated status of “Approved Pending Adoption” of the countywide Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP).

Westmoreland County’s Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated status of “Approved Pending Adoption” of the countywide Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP).

The Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners plan to sign a Resolution to adopt the 2014 plan during the Thursday, December 18, 2014 Board of Commissioners public meeting. The plan will then be available for review on the County website and at the County departments of Planning, Public Safety, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The plan will then be distributed to all 65 municipal emergency management coordinators within the County.
As the final step for this HMP update process, participating municipalities must adopt the HMP in order to retain their eligibility for future hazard mitigation funding. This adoption of the County HMP reinforces the municipal commitment to reducing losses to life and property as a result of natural and human made disasters.
“The update of this plan allows the county and its participating municipalities to continue be eligible for future mitigation funding from FEMA,” said Hazard Mitigation Officer, Chris Tantlinger. “We’re very eager to move forward and continue improving what FEMA Community Planning Specialist, Alison Kerns, labeled as one of the best plans reviewed by FEMA Region III”.
