March for Parks 2023 Wrap-Up

Thank You!

The Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory Board would like to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in the 2023 March for Parks fundraiser on Saturday, March 25!

Approximately 500 marchers, volunteers, sponsors, and staff braved the weather at Twin Lakes Park and raised over $74,000 to fund projects and programs in our Westmoreland County parks and trails.

2023 was a momentous year, celebrating Westmoreland County’s 250th anniversary. Several “Heritage Families” shared their stories and family history around a crackling campfire, dogs and pups were awarded fun ribbons and treats, kids and families played games and enjoyed a pancake breakfast with a hot chocolate food truck, and over 18 teams of marchers walked around Twin Lakes Park while conversing with historical re-enactors from throughout Westmoreland County’s 250 years.

Funds raised at the March for Parks directly benefit our parks and trails; this grass roots support is extremely important to secure other grants and funding to construct new facilities that benefit our neighbors and communities. Thank you to all those who supported the March for Parks and the Citizens Advisory Board!

If you donated & did not pick up your commemorative t-shirt, or would like a different size, we have extra at the Parks Office at 194 Donohoe Road, Greensburg. Stop in any time Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm.

If you weren't able to attend the March, but would still like to contribute, please send a check made payable to "WCPRCAB" to: March For Parks, 194 Donohoe Road, Greensburg, PA 15601

March for Parks "Heritage Families"

2023 marked Westmoreland County's 250th anniversary and to commemorate this occasion, the March for Parks celebrated families who lived and shaped our County's history for 100 years or more at Twin Lakes Park on March 25.  Some of these families dated back to 1773 to the newly formed Westmoreland County!  Check out this article from the Tribune Review newspaper, highlighting one of these Heritage Families.

If you believe you may be from one of the Westmoreland Heritage families, please contact the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation to be included in the scrapbook journal and receive a commemorative pin.
