    Upon the expiration of the Judicial Emergency in Westmoreland Count on May 8, 2020, please be advised that Civil Motions Practice will resume on Friday, May 15, 2020, subject to certain practices and procedures for contested motions.

    April 24, 2020 Judicial Emergency Order 
    Closes courts for non-essential functions, but provides courts are to be open and accessible for certain “essential” proceedings, which are set forth in the Judicial Emergency Order.
    ATTENTION ATTORNEYS - CRIMINAL COMMON PLEAS COURT PROCEDURE for release of low level offenders
    FAMILY COURT CUSTODY ORDERS - IMPACT OF SCHOOL CLOSURES
    There have been questions from counsel and litigants pertaining to Governor Wolf’s directive closing all schools in PA for the remainder of the school year and whether that will affect custody orders. The answer is no.  Summer custody orders take effect on the date that school would normally have ended for the school year. The school year schedule for custody remains in effect until that date for all Westmoreland County custody orders.
    DOMESTIC RELATIONSDue to uncertain financial situations in the current times, Westmoreland County Domestic Relations will accept Consent Agreements to temporarily modify support Orders.  All Orders modified are subject to a further Review at a later date

Special Courts


The Special Courts administrator is responsible for providing administrative support to the magisterial district courts located throughout Westmoreland County. The Special Courts administrator will:
  • Screen personnel issues
  • Process invoices and coordinates procurement
  • Oversee budgets
  • Coordinates magisterial district judges facilities and leases
  • Review caseload statistics
  • Process citizens complaints regarding magisterial district courts
  • Act as a liaison services between magisterial district courts and county government
