Your Qualifications
Resource families should be able to offer:
- Flexibility to respond to court or WCCB requests
- Time to take your foster child for WCCB-paid medical, dental and psychological care and for supervised visits with the birth family
- Financial stability to assure a secure environment
- A strong, caring extended support system of family, friends and community to help you
- Understanding to help a child overcome the effects of a family in crisis and to initiate experiences essential for healthy personality development
- Patience to help a child discover and appreciate the benefits of a stable, caring home
Requirements
Resource families need to be able to have:
- 21 years of age or older
- Pass clearances:
- at 14 years of age: State Police and Child Abuse
- at 18 years of age: State Police, Child Abuse and FBI
- Obtain physicals from doctor which state they are physically able to care for foster children
- Pass home safety requirements
- Provide 5 references including employer
- Attend two in-office orientations, 2 hours each
- Complete 13 hours pre-service training
- Comply with Act 160 regulations
