What is the Base Service Unit:

The Base Service Unit is a state and county requirement for intake to the county behavioral health program for the assessment and evaluation of mental health needs and identification of a plan for referral and linkage to services. The county Base Service Unit performs many other functions such as collaborative planning for consumers who are in or being discharged from a State Hospital and working with providers to ensure that services are available throughout the county.

The Base Service Unit is a coordinated entry model and has established a “no wrong door” approach for all Westmoreland County residents. The goal is to provide our residents with a simple and easy way to locate and access any service to address his /her/their needs. This could be mental health need; support, education and or assistance locating and accessing a service for any reason.
