Annual Report

Foreword on Statistics

Prior to utilizing or incorporating any statistics provided, one must understand the jurisdictional limitations of the coroner.  Many fatal incidents occur in Westmoreland County where the decedent is transported out of the county, either by emergency medical personnel or by private means, to trauma centers and hospitals in adjacent counties, wherein the pronouncement of death is made.

These cases no longer fall into the jurisdiction of the Westmoreland County Coroner, but rather the coroner of the county in which the death occurred.  Just as police jurisdiction falls where the incident occurs, the coroner’s jurisdiction is where the death occurs. For this reason, some statistics may appear abnormally decreased or increased, depending on the category.

These reports are a complete analysis of all investigations completed by the coroner's office in the respected year provided.
