The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a community service and work-based training program for older adults. Authorized by the Older Americans Act, the program provides subsidized service-based training for low income persons 55 or older who are unemployed and have poor employment prospects. Participants are placed in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities, including day care centers, senior centers, schools, and hospitals. They are paid minimum wage for an average of 20 hours per week while training. It is intended that community service training serves as a bridge to unsubsidized employment opportunities. To be eligible for the program, applicants must be 55 years of age or older, unemployed, and meet income eligibility guidelines. Westmoreland County Community College (WCCC) currently operates the program in Westmoreland, Fayette, Greene, and Cambria counties. For more information, please call (724) 925-4066.
