Developmental Trauma Disorder | Developmental Trauma Disorder is a concept developed by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk to better define the symptomology that children suffer from as a result of multiple, chronic, prolonged, and developmentally adverse traumatic events of an interpersonal nature. Developmental Trauma Disorder has not yet been accepted in the DSM-V, but has gained the recognition and support of leading psychiatrists today. The concept was developed because a diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder does not accurately depict all of the symptoms children suffer when they're repeatedly traumatized during childhood. As a result, these youth need very specific treatments to address their complex trauma related issues. This training will educate participants on the causes and symptoms of Developmental Trauma Disorder, and the various treatments that can be utilized to effectively combat this growing public health concern. |

Urban Violence Traumatic Stress Response |
Urban Violence Traumatic Stress Response Syndrome (UVTS) is a concept developed by Dr. Erwin Randolph Parsons. UVTS is not a diagnosis found in DSM-V; rather, it is a concept explaining how many urban youth become afflicted with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. While working with inner-city youth, Dr. Parsons discovered many of these youth were showing the same signs and symptoms as people that were diagnosed with PTSD. Although UVTS symptoms are very similar to those of PTSD, there are also some unique symptoms that come along with UVTS. Treatment needs of these youth are also unique. This training will cover the causes, symptoms, and treatments of Urban Violence Traumatic Response Syndrome. It is also worth noting that although we see this most often in inner-city youth, it can occur anytime a youth is being raised in a violent and chaotic environment with insufficient parental guidance and supervision. |
