Help is available for rent assistance, security deposits and emergencies for those who qualify.

Affordable Homes to Buy or Rent 

A comprehensive website listing affordable homes to buy or rent in Westmoreland County.  Includes news about revitalized communities, income eligibility and resources for first time home buyers.

Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program  

Emergency and short term assistance available for people worried about becoming homeless.  Assistance may include help with rent or utility bills, emergency vouchers for hotel or motel and more.  Call the Westmoreland County 24-Hour Toll-Free Helpline for information and referral:  1-800-222-8848.

State Programs and Services

Offers free walk-in STD Clinic and HIV testing, by appointment only.  Located in Greensburg

Food stamps, medical assistance and cash assistance is available for those who qualify

Unemployment Office 888-313-7284

Assistance for out-of-work residents.  The office is located in Indiana, and claims are done by phone.

Utility Assistance

Dollar Energy Fund 800-222-8848

A seasonal program to assist residents with energy bills.  For those who’s electric or gas is shut off, the program usually opens in October.  For those who need help with utility bills, the program usually opens March 1.  Eligibility is determined by income as well as effort to pay.  Applications are taken by County Information and Referral.

Energy Assistance 724-832-5524

A seasonal program to help those who qualify with heating oil, kerosene, gas bills and electric bills etc.  The program typically runs from November through March.


Other

Blackburn Center 724-837-9540 (for appointment, information or to volunteer)

Provides counseling and therapy, support groups and emergency shelter for battered women and their dependent children, as well as legal advocacy/accompaniment at PFA hearings and trials.  A 24-hour toll-free hotline is available to reach a counselor any time of the day or night at 888-832-2272.
