Jurors Summoned for Jury Duty

Jurors who have been summoned for jury duty must call the Juror Call-In number or check the County Website after 4:00 p.m. on the day before their jury service.  Jurors must have their juror number which appears on their juror summons available when listening to the call-in message or checking the County Website.  The call-in message and Website will advise jurors whether they have to report for jury service based on their juror number. If the call-in message indicates that you do not have to report for jury service then you are excused from your service.  You are considered to have fulfilled your jury service obligation.   The Juror Call-in Numbers are: (724) 838-7000 (Local)  OR  1-800-422-1153.  This information is also available on the web as Daily Juror Notification Service.

Excusal and Postponement Requests

Jurors who want to be excused or postponed from their jury duty must complete Section B when returning their jury summons.  Jurors may also request an excusal or postponement from jury duty through the County Website at www.co.westmoreland.pa.us (keyword: Juror) and click on "Jury Duty Excusal/Postponement Form."   The juror specifies in Section B of the summons the reason(s) for the request. Postponement of jury duty means that the juror is not required to report on the summoned date, but will be summoned later during the year. Physician’s letter must accompany excusal from jury duty for the entire year for medical reasons. Other reasons for excusal are reviewed and evaluated pursuant to court policy. Jurors receive a prompt response in writing or by email to excusal/postponement requests. Jurors who return the summons and then realize that they have a problem serving must request an excusal or postponement by sending or faxing a letter to the Court Administrator’s Office, Attention: Jury Scheduling, 2 North Main Street, Greensburg, PA. 15601.

Jurors Failing to Report To Duty

Jurors who fail to report for jury duty and have not been excused or postponed from service are accountable to the Court. Jurors are scheduled for a contempt hearing before the Court and may be fined for failure to report.
