In Western Pennsylvania, the trail builder's grand dream is a motor-free connection between Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. In practice, this means a connection from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Maryland, where you can pick up the C & O Canal Towpath for the final 185 miles to Washington. The Allegheny Trail Alliance is working to make this dream come true.

The Five Star Trail...
The Five Star Trail is a Rail with Trail located along the Southwestern Pennsylvania Railroad corridor between Lynch Field in Greensburg and Youngwood, Pa., in central Westmoreland County. The Five Star Trail provides the opportunity for non-motorized outdoor recreational experiences including walking, jogging, bicycling and cross country skiing, as well as alternative transportation resources to the residents of central Westmoreland County.
