Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit

The Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit is a Pennsylvania not for profit corporation that holds charitable status pursuant to Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  The unit was formed in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to provide Westmoreland County with a trained and ready pool of volunteers to assist the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office.

Members of the Reserve Unit volunteer their time to further the various activities of the Unit.  In addition to providing trained search and rescue personal, security and traffic control, the members conduct educational programs for the community, including Bike Safety for kids, Utility Worker Fraud and Identity Theft presentations for senior citizen groups.  The Reserve Unit also provides an “Ident-a-Kid” Program and participates in the Area Office for the Aging cell phone drive which provides emergency use cell phones for senior citizens.
