The Westmoreland Street Park Alliance was recently formed with the mission of assisting the Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation and its Citizen’s Advisory Board in planning and constructing a Skate Park and support facilities at Twin Lakes County Park. The Alliance came to life from a group of 70 youth and parent supporters that attended the first public meeting on the Skate Park. They have planned a variety of events to promote the construction of the park and assist in raising the funds required to complete the project.
First, on May 28th, the Alliance will host the 2005 Skatewave Demo Tour at the Greensburg Community Day Celebration at Lynch Field. The event is scheduled for Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00 pm and all interested skaters and bikers are invited to stop by and check out the skating equipment as a temporary skate park will be built and amateur experts will provide demonstrations and instruction. All boards, bikes and blades are invited to come and try out the skating surfaces and ramps but all must follow these simple rules: 1.) All riders will be required to sign a waiver. 2.) Riders under 18 must bring a parent/guardian to sign waivers. 3.) All riders must wear a helmet.
There will information about the newly formed Westmoreland Street Park Alliance and an opportunity to sign up to help. There will be free giveaways, including an Angleboy Skateboard, and some raffles provided by the Alliance to raise funds for the Skate Park at Twin Lakes. Come and commit your support to help build a big Skate Park for local riders.
Also on Saturday, June 4 the Westmoreland Street Park Alliance is hosting a car wash at Lynch Field as a fundraiser for the Skate Park. All funds collected will be used to support the Skate Park project. The car wash will take place from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Bring your car and get it washed and at the same time make a donation in support of our new skate park.
The Alliance meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Westmoreland County Public Works Building on Donohoe Road. To get involved attend the next meeting or call County Parks at 724-830-3950.
