The Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation, with the help of its Citizens Advisory Board, is preparing for the future by developing a master plan for the future expansion of Twin Lakes County Park along George’s Station Road, just east of Greensburg.
Plans call for the future park to be a complementary mixture of active and passive recreation. The park will highlight a street style skate park for skateboarders, rollerbladers and BMX bikers. Designed as a park plaza, this area will be fully accessible to tricks, grids and skating to provide the look and feel of urban street skating.
The park might also include such items as a deck hockey rink, dog park, and an amphitheatre; and for the winter season a sledding and tubing hill, which will include a slalom track and an ice skating rink. For families the parks plan to include facilities such as 100-200 person pavilions, hiking trails, equestrian trails, garden plots, playgrounds, and plenty of open space for family activities.
The master plan is being broken down into three phases for implementation. Phase I will include the skate park plaza, entrance roads and parking, a restroom, improvements to the community gardens, and connecting walkways and landscaping.
Phase I is now complete. A fundraising campaign is currently underway to fund Phase II development. The Westmoreland County Bureau of Parks and Recreation Citizen’s Advisory Board is a non-profit corporation and it is leading the fundraising effort. Any donations to the project are fully tax-deductible. If you would like to donate please make your check payable to CAB Growth Fund and mail it to:
