R/C Flying Club Hosts Scout Troop at Cedar Creek

Members from the Mon Valley Radio Control Club hosted scouts from BSA Troop 204 of Pleasant Hills on August 22, 2010 at the Cedar Creek Park R/C airfield. Following the scout’s 15-mile bike outing, the scouts enjoyed an R/C presentation and helicopter flight demonstration by Jeff Sumey, professor at California University of PA. The scouts then had an opportunity to fly the club’s R/C trainer airplane using a buddy-box system under instruction of club president Tim Stanish and vice-president Al Kozusko. "It’s harder than it looks", Stanish repeated of most who tried it. "This event represents the kind of community service our club members enjoy doing and demonstrates our appreciation to Westmorland County for hosting our club’s flying site at Cedar Creek Park" said Sumey. Scoutmaster Bill Myers was quoted in saying "They all had great fun".

Cedar Creek Park is the premiere access point to the Youghiogheny River Trail for Westmoreland County residents.

This walking and biking trail is part of the Great Allegheny Passage, a regional trail system planned to link Washington D.C. with Pittsburgh.  The trail passes directly through the Manderino Riverfront portion of the park.

Picnic pavilions, athletic fields, and scenic play areas are just a few of the many reasons why Cedar Creek Park is always heavily visited. One of the more unique features within Cedar Creek Park’s 464 acres is a spectacular deep gorge cut by Cedar Creek in the northern section of the park. A walk along the gorge trail provides a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape.
