Coal & Coke Trail
Coal and Coke Logo
Ride or walk through history as you travel the Coal & Coke Trail, linking Mt. Pleasant and Scottdale. Set on scenic old railroad corridors, the Coal & Coke Trail provides outdoor recreational opportunities for walkers, joggers, bikers, hikers, and cross-country skiers. The trail also provides non-motorized, handicapped accessible transportation for area residents and tourists.

Along the way, enjoy beautiful natural areas and wildlife while following Jacob’s Creek past old coke ovens. You’ll be following in history’s footsteps as you travel along the same paths as General Braddock, H.C. Frick, Andrew Carnegie, A.C. Cochran, and others.

Trail Course Coal and Coke Park

Beginning in Willows Park, Mt. Pleasant, the Coal and Coke Trail heads southwest on the old corridor of the Scottdale Branch of the PA Railroad toward Scottdale. The trail runs alongside the active railroad to Bridgeport, where it crosses Shupe Run and Buckeye Road, continuing southwest to Ironbridge. At the East Huntington Sewage Plant in Ironbridge, the trail leaves the railroad corridor and shares Sewage Treatment Lane to the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Road (Old Route 119). The trail then continues under Route 119 and across Sherrick Run into North Scottdale.

Once again, the trail exits the corridor on Mildred Street as it heads toward Scottdale. The trail continues down Mildred Street to the intersection of Overholt Drive, crosses Overholt Drive, and continues down Mt. Pleasant Road to Kendi Park on the left. Immediately after passing the playground in Kendi Park, the trail turns left into the Park, continues past the basketball court, and then connects to the Jacob’s Creek Multi-Use Trail.  The Jacobs Creek Multi-Use Trail continues west toward downtown Scottdale.

The Henderson Connection is now completed! This new connection at Kendi Park takes the trail off the road and creates a new entry that is safer. Check out some photos of the completed section:

The trailhead is across the small bridge.

From the Donegal area:
Come down Route 31 into Mount Pleasant. Go past the railroad tracks and turn left at the next stoplight onto Center Avenue, then same as above.
