Child Abuse Prevention
A Message from Shara B. Saveikis
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.  During this month, we have an opportunity to reflect on the national tragedy that is known as child abuse.  Child abuse happens to children of all ages and in all types of family situations.  Children are abused physically, sexually, and emotionally.   Child abuse happens right here in Westmoreland County as well across the state and nation.  In 2012, the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau investigated 598 reports of child protective services allegations (abuse) as well as 2,189 reports of general protective services allegations (neglect).

More Information
To help celebrate Child Abuse Prevention Month, we have asked some of our community partners to provide information about ways to help prevent child abuse.  We are very pleased to make their information available to the citizens of Westmoreland County on our web site.  Please take a few minutes and explore these topics.

If you suspect a child is being abused, call Childline at (800) 932-0313 or call the Children’s Bureau directly at (724) 830-3300.  We must all work together to prevent child abuse and to protect the children of our county.
