Juvenile Probation
Youth Commission Volunteer Program
There are 17 Youth Commissions with approximately 180 volunteers in over 60 municipalities in Westmoreland County. The purpose is to provide a municipality the opportunity to assist in helping youth adjust, work out, and solve the problems within their own communities and/or neighborhoods.

Goal: To prevent a first time juvenile offender who commits a minor offense from obtaining a juvenile record; to help reduce the burden of juvenile cases in Juvenile Court; to provide juveniles closer supervision and greater opportunities for re-socialization and readjustment in their own communities; and to get the community involved in the rehabilitation of the youth in their home area.

Juveniles may be referred to a Youth Commission by Juvenile Court, a District Judge, or a Police Department.
