Juvenile Court Week
An educational event reaching over 1,200 Jr. High students each year from Westmoreland County's public and parochial schools. The juvenile probation and detention staff, conduct a skit, mock juvenile hearing, and a tour of the Detention Center. Residents from other placement facilities speak to the students about their experiences and inmates from the State Correctional Institute speak on prison life. Each student is encouraged to participate in a poster contest. Prize money is donated. Two winners are recognized from each school. The first place winner receives a $50.00 savings bond and the second place winner receives a $10.00 gift certificate to one of the local malls. There is a grand prize winner that is chosen over all the winners and receives a $100.00 savings bond, and other gifts. Open House is conducted one evening during this week for the public.
