Funding of Grants
The Board of Commissioners, through the passage of Ordinance No. 2-2002, the "Westmoreland County Hotel Room Rental Tax Ordinance," established a three-percent tax on all overnight accommodations in the county to fund tourism, convention promotion and tourism development. Hotel operators began funding the program in July 2002.
One-third of the Westmoreland County Bed Tax is appropriated for a grant program specifically established to support the County' s Tourism assets.

The Tourism Grant Program has helped municipalities such as the City of Greensburg promote their Concerts in the Park series and Downtown West Newton complete their "Bridge to Tomorrow" project.
Historical Societies throughout the county use their grants to maintain or develop historic sites such as The Westmoreland County Historical Society who used their 2006 grant to begin the architectural and exhibit design process for a Visitor's Center at Historic Hanna's Town.

Idlewild and SoakZone in Ligonier Township and one of the county's largest seasonal employers have utilized the money they received for expanding their promotional efforts into new markets, specifically in the geographical regions east of our area.
Previous grants have been awarded to assist with the preservation and marketing of buildings with architectural significance such as DiSalvo's Station Restaurant in Latrobe, West Overton Museum, Scottdale and the Vandergrift Museum.
