March 22, 2014, 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM @ Dental Hygiene Clinic in Science Hall
On "Sealant Saturday," WCCC dental hygiene students and members of the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists' Association (PDHA) will provide free oral health exams and place clear sealants on children’s permanent back teeth. Oral hygiene research shows that a tooth sealant – a thin plastic material – when applied to the biting surface of a molar acts as a physical barrier to prevent oral bacteria from collecting and creating the environment that allows decay to develop.
“Sealants are a good investment for a child’s oral health and will help prevent tooth decay during cavity-prone years,” said Angie Rinchuse, WCCC professor of dental hygiene and member of the PDHA.
“Applying sealants is a simple, painless procedure compared to the conventional methods of filling a cavity,” said Rinchuse.
WCCC is one of 21 dental hygiene academic clinics in Pennsylvania
