Commissioner Courtney Seeking Senior Volunteers for their Experience and Expertise

Posted on August 29, 2014 at 4:03 PM by Commissioner Courtney

Attention all Senior Citizens looking to give back to their community and have a voice in the conversation about the Senior Citizen Services available in Westmoreland County:

The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) Advisory Council has five vacancies on their roster.  There are 3 that expire in 2015 and 2 that expire in 2017.  Vacancies are appointed by the Westmoreland County Commissioners and must be over 60 years of age.

The AAA depends on the Advisory Council members for their input and value their opinions and assistance.

The Advisory Council members work together as a group and with AAA staff toward fulfillment of a mutual goal ---- the provision of needed services to the frail older consumers throughout Westmoreland County.   The Council members communicate to the Area Agency on Aging and the community the needs of the aging consumer.  They act as “agents of the aging consumer in-need” by:

  • monitoring existing services to assure that the services successfully meet consumer’s needs
  • advocating for meeting the continuing consumer needs
  • assessing and evaluating the yet unmet needs of consumers in their area

Meetings are held every other month (breakfast or luncheon meeting), throughout Westmoreland County, to review the ongoing operations and services in the AAA and to address issues brought by the Council membership.

Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon.

If you are interested in serving, please send a letter or email of interest to us at your earliest convenience.  A resume or list of experiences would be helpful as well.
