The Fire Chiefs Association of Westmoreland County is honored to award two $250.00 scholarships honoring one of Westmoreland County’s most dedicated volunteer firefighters, James Caldwell. One male and one female candidate who must be a current Westmoreland County firefighter or be a relative of a Westmoreland County firefighter will be awarded this scholarship. The proceeds of the James Caldwell Inspirational Scholarship will be utilized to defray the cost of any post-high school education, whether the training be vocational, collegiate or professional that the candidate engages in.
Candidates must write a 500 word essay entitled “Important Lesson Taught by a Firefighter.” Subject matter of the essay will discuss the significant contributions that firefighters make to the community and important contributions and life lessons taught to the candidate by an individual firefighter.
The James Caldwell Inspirational Scholarship will be awarded to the top two essays (one submitted by a male and one submitted by a female) as judged by a committee consisting of members of the Fire Chiefs Association of Westmoreland County. Scholarship awardees will be announced at the organization’s annual fire school and the scholarship will be paid directly to the recipients post-school learning institution.
